Do your students agree?: Less APs and extracurriculars on college applications, Harvard report recommends

Start off class with a short current events writing assignment! Directions : After watching the video, ask students to write a response to any or all of the following questions for 2-3 minutes. Students should share their response with another student or discuss as a class. Do you agree with Harvard's report which encourages college admission committees to limit the number of AP exams and extracurricular activities students include on college applications? Will this change provide students with a better opportunity to discuss their passions instead of their accomplishments? Does it make a difference knowing more than 50 colleges endorsed Harvard's report, including all of the Ivy League schools? You may want to remind students that short writing assignments are a useful way to generate ideas for potential research papers or op-ed articles. Plus, they are always a good way to practice writing!
