For their first assignment of the year, Student Reporting Labs across the country submitted short videos focusing on their concerns and questions for the next president of the United States. In addition to being published on SRL’s website , the videos also appear on Letters to the Next President 2.0 , an initiative among media partners whose goal is to give young people a platform to talk about the issues that matter most to them in the 2016 election. The project currently features more than 4,000 letters written or filmed by students on topics ranging from rising college tuition to police violence to climate change and beyond. The letters show that American youth are in fact aware and often concerned by what they see happening on the news and in their own neighborhoods. Despite not being old enough to vote, these students look to our next leader to work on solutions and ensure a brighter future for them. If you're class is interested in submitting written or video letters, the deadline for Letters to the Next President 2.0 is next Tuesday, Nov. 8. The site also features a number of teaching resources and the existing letters serve as excellent tools for talking about civic engagement in the classroom. Find all of the videos here .
