A state representative in Pennsylvania wants to introduce legislation banning the use of scented products like perfume, cologne, or body spray in schools that have students with fragrance allergies. According to the Pennsylvania Independent, state Rep. Marcia Hahn, R-Northampton, based her bill on the story of a student at Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pa., who suffered a severe allergic reaction to Axe Body Spray and required a trip to the hospital.
Hahn said she knows regulating body spray among students would be a challenge, but hopes her legislation starts a conversation about the topic.
“If you have a piece of legislation and it’s not enforceable, it doesn’t really help,” Hahn, who is currently searching for bill co-sponsors, told the Independent. “So I’m hoping that we can come up with a solution that works for everyone.”
