FBI investigates new set of Clinton-related emails
How important do you think the last week of campaigning is in a presidential election?
The Federal Bureau of Investigation told members of Congress on Friday that it is reviewing a new batch of emails related to Hillary Clinton’s private email server that she used as President Obama’s Secretary of State. The content and significance of the emails has not yet been determined or made public.
FBI director James Comey’s announcement came after the Bureau found emails in an unrelated case that might be relevant to the Clinton private server inquiry. The emails were found on a device that belonged to former U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
The FBI closed its initial investigation in July when it found that Clinton, while “careless,” had not carried out acts of criminal wrongdoing.
The timing of Comey’s letter just 11 days before Election Day drew criticism from Democrats and some Republicans who said it could potentially tip the scales in the presidential race in favor of Republican Donald Trump. The Clinton campaign has called on the FBI to reveal all it knows about the emails.
