It’s not just cigarettes and their smoke that can give you lung cancer. According to a new international study, exposure to outdoor air pollution can also kill you.

The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IRAC) reported Thursday that there is sufficient evidence to link pollutants from car emissions, industrial processes, power generation and household combustion of solid fuel (think wood or coal) to cardiovascular illnesses and lung cancer. As a result of their evaluations, The IRAC classified much of the air pollution “carcinogenic to humans.”

In their full report, “Air Pollution and Cancer,” the IRAC estimated that air pollution has contributed to 3.2 million premature deaths in 2010, including 223,000 deaths from lung cancer.
