By the People Hosts Diverse Events to Engage Citizens By the People
supports a wide variety of events across the country to encourage citizen
dialogue. A focus of BTP's efforts-- and the model for our larger Citizen Deliberations--
is the convening of a random sample of citizens for dialogues centered around
a Deliberative Opinion Poll®. Local PBS stations and community organizations
usually host and cover these gatherings. For these events, a random sample of
citizens is called, surveyed on an issue and then invited to attend an event.
They are given background materials, attend a day-long Citizen Deliberation, and
are surveyed again.
By the People also supports smaller broadcast and non-broadcast
citizen discussions organized by our network of community colleges, Alliance Organizations
and other community groups. These events have included youth forums, videolinked
dialogues, town hall style meetings, and smaller discussions.
