Asha De Vos
Deckhand/Science Intern - Maldives & Sri Lanka
Home: Colombo, Sri Lanka
Asha graduated in June 2002 from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland with a Bachelor's degree in Marine and Environmental Biology.
Her interest in cetacean acoustics was enhanced by the opportunity to work with Dr. Jonathan Gordon on an undergraduate research project studying the sound patterns that sperm whales produce called 'codas'.
She analyzed recordings made from the Sea of Cortez, Mexico and the Azores. In addition, she recently worked as a research assistant on a project dealing with Hector's dolphins in New Zealand.
Asha is excited to work on the Odyssey studying the waters around Sri Lanka in order to learn more about sperm whales closer to home.
