Investigations

Dutch Colonial Home

The Case:

In 1856, the U.S. Army built a fort in Oregon and appointed Lieutenant Philip Sheridan as its head officer.

10 years later, Sheridan would rise to become one of the Civil War's most famed Generals.

Ignored for years, an abandoned Oregon house on state park land may have once been the home of Sheridan and the U.S. military.

Oregon State Park employees and their neighbors, the Confederated Tribe of the Ronde ask the History Detectives to solve the mystery of the house.

Is this Sheridan's home and why was this fort built in the Oregon territory, on the opposite side of the country from the origin of the Civil War?
