Many books give information about propagating perennial. One of my favorites is The Perennial Garden by Jeff and Marilyn Cox, published by Rodale in 1985. It contains a useful plant chart outlining cultural requirements and the best time and method for propagation. When growing anything new I always consult several sources. Opinions vary all over the place and in the end it will be up to your best judgment. No single book can rightly be call the best but most are a great help and often get me headed in the right direction. Gardening for me is not a set of fixed rules, not a competition, not a test, it's fun and I love it. Good growing.
