Composed for string orchestra and later orchestrated for full orchestra, Jazz Legato was completed in the Summer of 1938 as a work for String Orchestra. It is 1 minute and 35 seconds long. Written as a companion piece to Jazz Pizzicato, Jazz Legato was first performed June 29, 1939 with the Boston Pops Orchestra. First recorded on June 29, 1939, in analog mono sound by Arthur Fiedler conducting the Boston Pops. Published in 1944. Orchestrated for full orchestra by the composer in 1949. First recorded by the composer on September 9, 1950, in analog mono sound. Recorded by the composer in analog stereo sound on June 3, 1959.
