Nationwide, the rate of deaths by gun violence this year is forecast to reach the highest level in two decades. Chicago is on pace to reach its highest annual homicide tally in 25 years. Amid a surge in violence, the University of Chicago aims to help make the city a model for how to rebuild traumatized communities.
