A professor of history in Warsaw, Wiktoria Sliwowska came from a family of Jewish writers whose home was filled with books. As they moved within in the ghetto, they took their books with them. Wiktoria remembers how her parents hid her under the bed when soldiers raided their building. From under the bed, she heard shots, and knew her family was gone.
