In Defense of Food

A Food Desert Blooms

Clip: Episode 1 | 3m 27s

The South Bronx is a place where junk food is for sale on every corner but fresh, healthy food is hard to find. But educator Stephen Ritz has spearheaded a network of food projects that enable local residents to grow their own healthy food. In a high school, Ritz started a hydroponic garden so that students training to become chefs can grow the vegetables they need just feet from their kitchen.
