So what then we gotta do is, number one, we gotta tell people... - Hmm.
- The message, who are planning to come see us.
(speaking in foreign language) (girl giggles) (speaking in foreign language) - Okay.
- Three, two, one.
(speaking in foreign language) We are Latins On Ice.
I'm Sabrin Diehl.
We are an improv group who believes in doing comedy and theater for our people, the Latinx community, and for all the people of all the world.
I've always been very loud.
People have always wanted to silence me since I was little.
I came out of the closet at 14 as a lesbian.
This year, I came out as trans.
People have always wanted to silence me.
Like, I'm hating like... Oh.
(Sabrin laughs) But like, racist, white people.
(Sabrin laughs) My dad was in prison for nine years.
My family doesn't want to talk about that.
I think we should talk about it.
Plenty people who've been incarcerated.
We don't talk about incarceration enough 'cause there's so much shame about it.
We don't talk about ICE enough because there's so much shame about it.
Like, and it's like...
It's sad because it's like, white people, it's like, I don't hate white people, you know?
Like, it's just like, literally like, the power is what separates us.
Like, this is why the biggest sin of this nation is segregation, because when they separate us, we can't get together.
And then people don't know how to treat us because they've never seen a Latin person in their life.
People don't know how to talk to Black people because they've never grown up with Black people.
I'm like, I should have eaten breakfast today.
I can't, I can't live this way.
(chuckles) I should have eaten breakfast.
This is gonna be a cool little film.
(Sabrin laughs) Like that, the marginalization of that, of the power deportation, is very specific to the Latinx people.
Like, I don't think any other group deals with it.
They don't because it's like, we are, it's like, obviously, it's not only Latinos getting deported, but it's like-- - Yeah.
- That is like, immediately, when a cop stops us, that's immediately what they think.
Yeah.
Like, that's our face.
- [Woman] Can I tell you something?
- Yeah.
- [Woman] I am going through deportation proceedings.
- You're going through deportation proceedings?
- Yeah.
So I just wanna like, see your-- - I'm sorry.
- [Woman] And I hear you like, the importance of being... Just putting very visible process... Yeah, no, so.
Thank you.
- Yeah.
- [Woman] It's hard to speak.
- I'm sorry.
(woman chuckles) (woman sighs) I feel like I've known you for a while, and I just met you.
(Sabrin laughs) - Yeah.
(woman chuckles) Patria y vida!
- That's right.
- You know, there's a revolution going on right now in Cuba?
You do know about it?
- In Cuba?
Yeah, no.
- Yeah.
And so when the revolution started, they were like, Fidel Castro said, "Patria o muerte."
- Hmm.
- "Country or death."
And now, people are revolting.
- Right, yeah.
- A lot of it led by young Afro-Cubans, and they changed it to "Patria y vida", "Country and life".
- Yeah, we shouldn't have to die for this.
- No.
(woman chuckles) (Sabrin chuckles) - [Man] First, there's a lot of steps in place.
- There's a lot of steps in place.
- And then... - [Man] The fact that you had to just move to a whole 'nother lake.
- [Sabrin] Right.
- Seems like-- - Right.
- [Man] Something you want to get at least maybe 24 hours notice.
- And you know, I mean, if they could have asked us to not curse, and we would've not cursed.
Absolutely not a problem.
If someone looked at us and say, "You need to take that down immediately."
And we were like, "Don't worry, we're packing up our stuff."
And he stood there and looked down on us as we took down our Abolish ICE sign.
To me, that is not political.
The political here is very personal because our families are getting deported every single day.
Every single day, we're being separated, and I'm done being silent about this.
I'm done.
So that pisses a lot of people off, and you know, Latinx people in this country don't have a voice because white people are always silencing us with the fear of deportation.
And (speaking in foreign language) I'm not having it anymore.
Patria y vida!
(speaking in foreign language) (Sabrin chuckles) (quirky piano music) (crowd chattering) Oh, we got the mics working?
Great.
Let's do this show.
- [Man] We are!
- [Unison] Latins On Ice!
(quirky piano music) (letters exploding) - [Announcer] In a world where Scandinavians took over sacred indigenous land, one team of Latinx are gifted by their ancestors with the power to protect the people from oppression.
- Never fear.
- [Unison] Super Latins are here!
(man sobbing) - Did I just hear that you miss your family in Guatemala?
- Yes.
(speaking in foreign language) (woman sobbing) - Don't worry, I got you.
(speaking in foreign language) - Oh!

(audience applauds and cheers) Not only that, but I dragged my other vitamin D-deficient Latino friends to join me.
(audience laughs) - I still deserve to be here because being Latinx is more than just about being able to speak Spanish.
Right?
(audience cheers) - Give up my nursing career because of an immigration issue and then pursue the arts?
Me and my mom would've laughed at you.
(audience laughs) - And also, what some of you are thinking, no, we are not related, you racists!
(audience laughs) - I believe in this community for coming out here today.

No, that's an idea.
(speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) Asking yourself what you want.
Like, so honestly like, and really giving yourself like, that space to really allow yourself to be like, this is what I want.
Like, no matter what that means about any other reality around you crumbling, like, to really find what you want, and then to step into that, and to like, own that and to know that like, realities around you will crumble, but like, you're okay because you're finally living like, within your truth.
And even if that means you have a moment of loneliness, knowing that like, the people that are meant to be in your life, like, will come into your life.
And like, I really feel in that place in my life right now.
I've like, never felt more love in my life, like, ever before.
I feel so supported.
But again, I think it's because like, I'm finally living like, really radically in my truth.
I don't even know if I would've been able to have done today if it wasn't for like, these people in my life.
Like, I just feel so seen.
Like, I feel so seen for the first time in my life, and being seen and being loved, which is like, the basic things that people need as children, you know?
But most of us don't get that.
Like, being seen and being loved, like, literally just so much for you inside, and then you to give back, and you're able to like, engage with the world in this really powerful way.
So, I'm just like really grateful for for the love in my life.
Yeah, I'm just, I'm just thinking of people's eyes.
Like, I'm just thinking of everyone that looked at me and like, everyone that was just like, thank you.
Like, just really being seen, and seeing them.
And like, they also felt seen, you know?
