When Tran
Ngoc Ann secured a well-paying job at the American
Embassy in Saigon, she could look forward to security
and happiness in a town dominated by the US military.
Nine years later, it became clear that Saigon
was going to fall to the communists. Ann, then
a widow with three children, sent her two sons,
Tony and Tim, to safety on a US military evacuation
plane. She intended to join them the next day.
She had no idea that she wouldn't see them again
for 16 years.
