David Lamb
covered the Vietnam War as a young reporter for
United Press International, 1968-1970, and later
the fall of Saigon. On April 26th, 1975, he happily
left Vietnam on one of the last transport planes
out of the country as North Vietnamese forces
rolled into Saigon. When he returned 20 years
later to open The Los Angeles Times South
East Asia bureau in Hanoi, he found that the people
and the country of Vietnam touched him in ways
he never expected.
