An insider’s tip to making and keeping friends in Hong Kong
Take business cards!
Even if you don’t have business cards you should get some cards
printed up with at least your name, address, phone number, and email
address. You will find that everyone from your taxi driver to the corner
flower vendor has a card with this information in Chinese on one side
and English on the other. It is kind of like the out dated European version
of calling cards. It is customary to exchange cards when meeting for
the first time. It is common to shake hands first and then present the
card with both hands. A slight bow during the hand shake is a good idea.
It is a sign of respect. Deep bows should not be used.
