Now in the third decade of his career, Samuel Ramey continues to reign as one of the world’s foremost interpreters of bass and bass-baritone operatic, concert and recital repertoire. Ramey has performed his repertoire of more than 40 roles in leading opera houses of the world. In concert, he has worked with major orchestras under some of the most prominent conductors of our time including Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, James Conlon, Sir Colin Davis, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Ricardo Muti, Sir George Solti and Herbert von Karajan.
The most recorded bass in history, Ramey has made more than 80 recordings of works including complete operas, recordings of arias, symphonic works, solo recital programs and popular crossover albums. His recordings have received Grammys, the Grand Prix du Disc and "Best of the Year" citations. His video recordings include the Metropolitan Opera’s Carmen and Bluebeard’s Castle, San Francisco Opera’s Mefistofele, The Rake’s Progress from the Glyndebourne Festival, and the Salzburg Festival’s Don Giovanni.
Ramey is frequently seen on television in Live From the Met and Live From Lincoln Center as well as other productions taped for PBS.
