CBS airs a documentary filmed by Walter Cronkite amidst the heavy fighting that follows Tet. The report ends with a rare on-air commentary, in which Cronkite says that it seems "more certain than ever that the bloody experience of Vietnam is to end in a stalemate." Upon seeing the report, Lyndon B. Johnson reportedly reacts, "Well, if I've lost Cronkite I've lost Middle America." A month later Johnson announces that he will not run for re-election.
