About 2,000 U.S. Marines land in Somalia as part of a U.N. mission to restore order in the African country and pave the way for humanitarian aid. The Marines, who come ashore near Mogadishu under cover of darkness with night-vision goggles, are met on the beach by the glare of dozens of news camera floodlights.
