The first part of the circuit we are going to make is the search coil oscillator. Start to fit the search coil oscillator components onto the board as shown in Figure. 1. You will need to leave space to the right of your board for the other sections, so try not to use more than a third of your plastic board, and put this on the left-hand side. The transistor can be either a BC109, BC 108 or BC 107.
Holes can be drilled (or use a bradawl) into the plastic (or circuit board) and then the components can be fitted. Most of the component wires can be bent without damaging them, but be gentle with diodes (which we'll be using later), they can be a little fragile. The base of the tuning capacitor can be glued to the plastic board.
When the components have been put in place, wire them up by soldering wire between them as shown. When you solder the components, ensure that the wires and the solder joints are under the board, holding the components in place.
