President Donald Trump, Ukraine, and the whistleblower: How we got here

House Democrats recently announced an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump in light of an anonymous whistleblower complaint about a July 25 phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The impeachment inquiry is looking to find out whether the president sought foreign assistance in gaining potentially compromising information about one of his political rivals, former Vice President Joe Biden. The president denies any wrongdoing, repeatedly saying that the call was "perfect."
