This Week on Washington Week: The final debate before Election Day
Just 12 days before Election Day, President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden will take the stage on Thursday for the final presidential debate. Both candidates are traveling to battleground states, even as COVID-19 cases are surging again in many parts of the country. The president continues to hold large rallies, while Biden is being boosted by a key surrogate – former President Barack Obama – on the campaign trail.
On Capitol Hill, the battle for the Senate majority is being influenced by ongoing debates. As millions of Americans face dire economic challenges, Congress has not yet agreed to a stimulus deal, with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell urging the president to hold off. Senate Republicans are also pushing to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, voting to advance her nomination out of committee despite a Democratic boycott.
