Q & A with Kevin Bruneau
When did you know that you wanted to pursue a career in antiques?
Back in early 1990s I would go to this auction called Danny's Auction Barn, still running in Foster, Rhode Island, and I would buy little things. I would purchase old painted furniture, fix it up, put it in a better sale, and make some good money... I was hooked!
If you could collect only one thing what would it be?
Asian art. I love antiques, especially Chinese arts, but I would love to have a great collection of articulated Japanese crabs lobsters and insects in silver and/or brass.
Do you have a favorite antique or flea market find that you've incorporated into your own home?
We have a great, old, large painting of a girl and her dog — it looks just like my daughter when she was about 10. It came out of an auction in upstate New York but belonged to the auctioneer, a friend of mine, and he got it out of a house in the Poughkeepsie area.
Outside of collecting, what are your interests?
I love to ride my motorcycle. I also have a couple of vintage cars, which I enjoy. I’m a stock car racing and football fan, and I love just getting together with family and friends for a good time anywhere.
If you could give a flea market novice one tip what would it be?
Don’t blink — you might miss something!
