What's Ahead in Season 2
Charlotte Heywood’s epic journey continues! Season 2 picks up on the unfinished story by Jane Austen, exploring the classic quandary of how independent-minded young women can make their way in patriarchal Regency-era England. For some women in society, like Charlotte’s sister Alison, love and marriage are top of mind. But others, notably Charlotte and Georgiana, have mixed feelings about matrimony.
The new season also introduces a number of alluring newcomers, including some military soldiers settling into town. During the Napoleonic Wars, young officers moved around the country with their troops, providing eligible women with dashing dance partners and potential matches. Sanditon features just such an enticing encampment of potential husbands and heartbreakers in the new season.
Season 2 is filled with other delights as well as pointed social commentary, such as a storyline about boycotting the sugar trade (led by the headstrong and impassioned Georgiana), which is based on real-life events of the time.
