(gentle music) - [Nicholas] James returns to Darrowby for the birth of his son.
- [James] Helen.
- James.
What you doing here?
- Helen.
- We ended season four with the arrival of Jimmy on Christmas Day, which was the best possible Christmas present.
- No matter what they throw at us, I promise you, I will get back to you both.
- But he was going back again and so Helen was about to tumble into the whirlwind that is becoming a new mom.
- Hey you.
- So at the end of season four, Mrs. Hall made some big life decisions.
I don't think I'm ready to go.
- I've always known this would come.
Perhaps we were never meant to be.
- Oh, Audrey.
- She decided to stay.
- Mrs. Hall, if I've taken you for granted over the years- - No, you haven't.
- Uncle Carmody, would you mind keeping Tricki company?
He saved a spot for you.
- We left Carmody very much settled in to, at the Skeldale home, this family that has welcomed him in.
- You could always have Tristan's old room.
He shan't be using it for a while.
- You are inviting me to stay at Skeldale, in your home?
- You can answer the night calls.
- Yes sir.
- But keep your hands off my whiskey.
- So we pick up season five with James at the RAF down in the southwest of England preparing to fight as a bomber pilot in World War II, but certainly my hope for him is to get back, to get back to his family, to get back to Little Jimmy.
- Is that your boy?
- Aye, it is.
- Helen's catapulted into a whole new landscape this season.
She's hoping James comes home.
She's leaning on Mrs. Hall a little bit more than she normally would and she's missing Jenny and her family and being plugged into that.
Her main focus is bringing up Jimmy and she loves it, but I think she really misses working.
She really misses that bit of her.
I think it's quite relatable.
The world shouldn't stop just 'cause I've had a baby.
- It's lovely having that relationship with Helen, where she's a new mom handing jobs around and muddling through it all together 'cause it is a muddle, isn't it, at the beginning.
They're able to support each other and melds their knowledge and their wisdom and their efforts.
Why don't you stop a minute?
I brought us some tea.
Mrs. Hall this season decides to take a more active role in the community, and an opportunity comes along she didn't expect.
- [Siegfried] What's all this?
- I decided I wanted to do a bit more for the war effort.
- What lies ahead for Carmody is helping out with surgery.
- Normally I wouldn't allow it, not until you've completed your training.
- I can do it, Mr. Farnon.
I won't let you down.
- Well, you better not.
- It's really a kind of baptism of fire for him.
- Since we last saw Tristan, he's been serving in Egypt with the RABC.
He's traveled all around Africa looking after things like mules and camels.
- Tristan's latest adventures from Cairo.
- He's landed on his feet.
- Having Tristan back is absolutely brilliant.
- Always good to have everyone back together again.
