- Hello, I'm Rachel Shenton, I play Helen Herriot.
- Hello, I'm James Herriot and I play- - No, you're not James.
- Nicholas Ralph in "All Creatures Great and Small."
- Have a day off.
(chuckles) - (chuckles) I've only got so many hands.
I could maybe stroke a dog with my foot as well.
(playful music) - So here we are at the "All Creatures Great and Small" holding farm and this is where all the creatures for "All Creatures" are kept and trained.
- Wendy, this is one of our better trained cows.
- Wendy had to pretend to have a broken leg.
- And did an amazing job of looking like it was in pain.
- The logistics of moving animals around are so complicated.
If you want to use a cow, it has to be in place six days before you film with it.
The same with sheep.
So it's much simpler to keep everything together in one place.
(merry music) (exuberant music) - [Nicholas] Good ladies.
And we're trying to get them in here.
Oh, no, we're losing them left.
- [Rachel] Go get, go up there.
- [Nicholas] Wait.
- [Rachel] This wasn't the plan.
Supposed... (chuckles) - [Nicholas] Steady, ladies.
- [Rachel] Oh, I don't wanna scare them though.
- [Nicholas] No, it's taking them home, (comical music) Yeah.
- [Rachel] Look at that.
- [Nicholas] Shut the gate.
A job well done.
(joking music) (latches clanking) Stop the timer!
- Easy.
- This is the new animal for the series.
These are the two rats who play Vonolel, Siegfried's rat, who he wins in a drinking contest in series three.
As you can tell, I'm quite keen on rats.
They're beautiful animals, intelligent, friendly, and I'm very pleased that Siegfried's got one.
- Right.
It's feeding time.
(grain rattles) - Tuck in.
- Very strong, aren't you?
It's all done.
It's all done.
Oh, there's a tiny bit.
You want it?
(sheep bleats) - It's untying my shoelaces.
You want some milk?
(enthusiastic music) Another day at work.
- Well, it's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.
(gleeful music) (birds chirping)
