(sparkling playful music) - Around the World in 80 Days, it's a story that has lived down the generations, and hopefully what people will experience with this telling of the story is that sense of journey and adventure and the unknown.
(film set chatter) - Our adaptation is contemporary.
- Exciting.
- Transformative.
- International.
- Ambitious.
- It's really fun to be with Fix and Fogg.
- Our trio of characters are quite different in many ways to Jules Verne's original version of who these people are.
- Really, Ashley's idea was for, to make Fix come up with this question.
Could you travel around the world in 80 days?
- Hello.
- It's a story about missed opportunity, and a call to live your life to the fullest.
- Whilst it's very definitely a period story, we wanted it to be filled with three-dimensional characters.
- It's not just an external journey, it's an internal journey for all three characters.
- The most important thing for me, was to make it relevant to our world now, and there's so many countries, and people are turning in on themselves.
So we're inspired by adventure, and an openness to experience.
- The first episode is a real mission statement for what the series is going to be.
- At its best, I think it's a real love letter to the world.
- Oh, it's beautiful.
(bright dramatic music) Around the world, my friend.
In 80 days.
