Behind The Scenes

Take a look behind the scenes of the filming of Beecham House, with stars Leo Suter, Pallavi Sharda, and writer and director Gurinder Chadha.
- [Gurinder] I think the biggest nightmare for me, if I have a nightmare on this shoot, is working with animals.
Because every time the animals appear, they never do what they are supposed to do, and it has become a big joke now.
We have horses that pull carriages, but they don't like to pull them on certain terrain, you know?
So we've ended up having to stop, take the horses off, and to get people to pull the carriage the rest of the way.
I mean the only animals that have been, consistently amazing in this shoot, are my elephants.
My elephants have give me 101% on this shoot.
You've been patient, you've been so good.
- [Man 1] They're nice.
- [Gurinder] Lovely elephant.
- In terms of crewing, what we try and do , is bring our HOD's from England, and a couple of people from each department.
Then we work with, you know, quite experienced people in India, who also bring their teams, and then sort of make it gel like that.
- [Sandra] Our India co-producer is a company called iTop, otherwise known as India Take One.
All of the India crew came from Mumbai, which is the filming capital of India.
We had to bring everyone, including the crew, cast, extras, lights, cameras, catering, even facilities from Mumbai to Rajasthan.
iTop had to put up this army of 350 people, in seventeen hotels.
- [Gurinder] We have magnificent caterers, who make the most sumptuous curries, almost like wedding food, you know, like wedding caterers.
So there is always a massive array of like fifteen dishes.
- [Man 2] Definitely think that should be in the scene (laughing) (indistinct speaking) - [Sandra] Gurinder was always able to bring everyone together, and the way she would do that is, you know just like the head of all families, we'd have a party.
- The entire palace at Chomu, was converted into like an epic Indian wedding scene, with like tables and chairs, buffet, and DJ, Gurinder was the first and last person on the dance floor, and she just completely immerses herself, and frees herself, like any good Indian woman would.
- [Leo] One of the joys of this job is that, at work you are working with your colleagues, other actors, but then you go back to the hotels and, you are still with those people, so we've developed a real sense of family, which has been lovely and makes the show work better, cause we all get along and there is a natural chemistry growing between us all.
So it's sort of like I get to go on holiday, I know it's not holiday, but it's sort of like I get to go on holiday with ten other great friends, and we are forming life long friendships, which is cool.
