- [Woman] There's a darkness in you, Mary Ann.
Married twice, widowed twice, and never a tear have you shed for either of 'em.
- It's a true story about Britain's first female serial killer.
- Want to know my secret?
Get yourself a husband.
- If it was that easy.
- And then get him insured.
35 quid.
I'm not kiddin'.
(laughs) - You're a monster!
- She killed, in reality, somewhere between 13 and 17 people.
It's a little big vague of how many she killed, but in our story I think she only kills 11.
(laughs) We've made her a little bit nicer.
The story moves really quickly, because this woman, so much happened to her.
The story spans over 15 years.
So, we meet Mary Ann when she's a normal girl, I guess, of 25 and she's lost four of her children, through natural causes and through events that happen in her life, she sort of starts to lose her humanity.
- God never sends us more pain than we can stand.
- If you really believe that, dad, you're as cruel as he is.
- I found it really thought provoking and I found myself really rooting for this woman that at times did the most horrific things, and then the next page you'd really feel sorry for her and the next page, you'd really not feel sorry for her anymore.
It was just really interesting for me about how I felt about this woman as I read the script.
So, I hope it has that same effect on the viewers.
She was certainly quite a character, and had a very interesting life.
