- My character realizes, "God, I think I'm in love with her, "And why didn't I see it all along?"
- Not in love are you?
- (laughs) Maybe that's the route to my happiness.
And of course realizes it when she's gone.
(laughs) A step too late.
- [Sara] The timing was never right.
- He didn't pick her six months ago, he's chosen her now when she's left, when she's leavin'.
That, again, is an interesting thing, I think.
Don't suppose there's any word.
- This could have been a fairy tale ending.
But he just never stood up and said it.
- Because he seems incapable for one reason or another to get his personal life into a gratifying shape.
All of that energy and enthusiasm an intelligence and intuition is channeled through work.
- [Bright] Morse, when you've a moment.
- Sir?
- Not as though you need to ask what that's about, with the new suit.
- It begins with having failed the sergeants.
And then you find that that was something even beyond Thursday and beyond Bright.
- These past three years you've made some very powerful enemies.
They won't forgive and they won't forget.
- If I was in a job where I was Inspector for three years, I've been shot at, stabbed, never promoted but constantly solving crime, then I think I would think to look elsewhere as well.
If this is a person who likes to solve crosswords, whose mind works in that way, then of course it's a particular type of person that would solve crimes in a slightly different way, solve puzzles I suppose.
He does get affected, sensitive, empathetic where I suppose you feel a bit of pain of someone whose lost their child or lost their husband or wife and you want to do what you can to bring a sense of justice to the world.
Kind of one of the joys of playin' this part, as well.
