- Christmas in Grantchester feels like it was always meant to be I guess.
- What can I say?
Merry Christmas and it's the middle of October.
So, in Grantchester every day is Christmas Day.
- When you bring Christmas to the mix and you have carols and covering the church in snow and you know, having Christmas dinner with Mrs.
Maguire it just fits, it feels completely right.
- Daisy Coulam has once again written an amazing script, this time we've added Christmas and it's like regular Grantchester but with just the warmth, the color, the love just turned up a notch.
- Writing the Christmas special has been a joy really from start to finish.
It's like being given a Christmas present.
We've just had so much fun.
We brought up a big list of ideas and songs we wanted in there, and Grantchester being Grantchester we've got all the loveliness, all the Christmas fun that we've put in but we've also got a strip club and a murder and it's not all cozy.
There's some darkness there.
- Of course there's a murder.
What it's about.
Things that happen to people at Christmas, and I think everybody will identify with sometimes the loneliness, the pain, the joy, family.
- It's been such fun to shoot the nativity in particular.
We were in the church yesterday, and Al was working with the kids doing the nativity and it was utter chaos and there was fear in his eyes, I think his sort of anxiety levels worked beautifully for the scene.
I think it's gonna cut together hysterically actually.
- Everyone was in fits of laughter watching them.
They were brilliant.
- It is a bit discombobulating filming Christmas in October.
We've spent the last two weeks singing carols and eating turkey and I tried to resist the feeling of getting Christmas-y.
I was like I must not get Christmas-y and then when you walk into the supermarket and you see Christmas I'm thinking no, but then we had this scene yesterday where the church was bathed in candlelight and I think at that point everyone just cracked and I'm just feeling so festive, it's ridiculous.
- The thing about Grantchester is it's the perfect village and to cover it in snow just makes it even more perfect.
