- Half the village is here.
Think about how it looks if you leave together.
- Well I adore the character of Mrs.
Maguire, played by Tessa Peake-Jones.
I really like the fact that in the first two series and most of the third series she doesn't really smile.
It's kind of one of the rules of the character.
- Mrs.
Maguire really is the voice of reason in all of this.
I think Mrs.
M is sympathetic towards Amanda.
She understands that this woman is in an untenable situation but it has to end one way or another.
It has to end in love or it has to end in duty and you can't have both.
- The path to righteousness is never easy.
- I think she's always been very good as a housekeeper with the previous vicars, but I think this one, Sidney, brings out the maternal instinct in her.
And then of course when Leonard joins, she's suddenly got two boys.
- Tessa can play anything that we throw at her, so we've really developed her for Series 3 so you really get to understand who Mrs.
Maguire is beneath the housecoat, as it were.
- What we explore across this series is, she opens herself up to love and to finding happiness.
We really wanted to just make Mrs.
M smile for once.
