Romance This Season

(soft music) - Been a while since you had a lady friend.

- Romance, that's what you need.

- Find yourself a nice girl.

- Well the good thing this season is that it's not quite as complicated as it's been before.

- You could tell him to let me go.

- Let her go.

- No.

- Don't say I didn't try.

The only thing that seems to be stopping him is work and Geordie and all the people around him, all his friends are saying just relax, stop thinking about the church.

I didn't cancel Bible study.

- Oh no, no, no, no.

- What?

- No talking about work, we're on holiday.

- He meets someone at Merries and his first time away from Grantchester and (laughs), it all looks like it's gonna be going well.

- Now who's smiling?

- But alas.

Something gets in the way, which stops it from happening.

- Shame, I think I could have fallen in love with you.

- But, it's really good to see Will open to the idea of finding someone.

- You're a dark horse, Mr.

Davenport.

- You don't know the half of it.

He hasn't got that repression that he's you know, the self repression that he's brought on himself, for good reason.

But, thanks to things that happened last season, he's a little bit more open and free.

- Sorry we're late, we were having a snooze.

- I think it's a really interesting dynamic what they're going through at the moment, Geordie and Cathy.

- Love?

- You think you know somebody within a marriage, you think you've been married for as long as they've been married for.

And so therefore you feel like you know everything about them.

You've heard the stories, you know the anecdotes, you've heard them a million times the childhood and then something happens whereby you don't know somebody.

- Cathy!

- And you're confused by their reaction to something.

Suddenly there's something new and the new is not always good.

And I think that's where they are at the moment.

She's unsure as to who this person is, who she's looking at.

- [Richard Cookson] One of the benefits of being on series six is we know these characters really well now.

- Men.

- [Richard Cookson] And we can dig into their backstories and we can build on the history that we all know about them.

And some of the history we don't know about them.

- That's when I love them the most, when they are put through the ringer.

- We're back to that, are we?

- Yes!

We are back to that.

- And yet, what we realize is they all love each other underneath it.
