Season 2
short | 04:46 | CC
Dynamic duo Kate Phillips and Stuart Martin give a grand tour of the Season 2 Scotland Yard set, with insights on how the on-screen magic is made.
(dramatic music) - So, "Miss Scarlet and The Duke, "Kate and Stu Set Tour."
(clapperboard claps) Where are you off to, Kate?
- So here we are in the reception of Scotland Yard.
This is where you'd normally come in through the front doors.
- Take them to the cells.
Keep them separate.
I'll question this one first.
- I do not like to be manhandled.
- Best part of my day arresting you.
- Scotland Yard into the reception.
Upstairs- - Just used that today actually.
- Yeah, the first time ever, right?
- Yeah.
- Let's go, let's go.
- C'mon, c'mon then.
- [Kate] How did you feel?
- Seeing people coming down but these stairs just sort of stop.
So if you go any further, you fall through that roof.
- Were you born this stupid?
Wagon's outside, I'll be out in a minute.
- And this way we're into the reception here.
As we said this door (knocking) goes outside.
People come in, they're being arrested, they'll go this way.
There's a lot of traffic.
- Every time you get arrested.
- It happens here.
- The start of Season 2.
(Miss Scarlet snorting) (Person with beard grunting) - Good morning.
(Miss Scarlet groaning) - If you come around here, you can see, "No complaints."
- We've actually just shot a scene here just before lunch.
- [Kate] And what's through there, Stu?
- This is the interview room.
Which leads us very nicely into the interview room.
Come on, with your cup of tea.
(Kate chuckling) - This is where all of the interviews happen.
So Stu and I try to mix it up.
We tend to interview together.
So beginning of every interview, it's like, "Who's sitting down?
"Should we try and vary it?
"Maybe we'll swap sides."
- When you say we mix it up, it's like, "You gonna stand or am I gonna stand?"
- Or do we both stand or do we both sit down?
- Shall I try walking?
(Kate laughing) No, don't walk.
Just sit down.
- My heart soars at the prospect of our esteemed publication being center stage of such an intriguing mystery.
- It's not a mystery, Mr.
Sinclair.
It is a theft.
There will be a perfectly rational explanation to all of this.
- Scotland Yard forced yet again, to turn to the lady detective.
(dramatic music) - It's always very dark in here.
Quite intense.
Do you wanna see some more?
- [Stu] Where are we going?
- Out of reception.
(upbeat music) We love our walk and talks.
- We do love the walk talks.
Head down here.
- So this will be Munro's office.
And then we take a right.
- Wait a minute, I need to close a door.
There's nothing out there.
You can't see anything.
(door slamming) - Take away all the mystery.
- Yeah, this is Duke's office.
This is his home.
You sort of come in, you get to choose different places to do the scene, wherever you feel comfortable, which is always really nice 'cause we use this space so much, don't we?
- Yeah, I'm really familiar with it so we sort know how to work it.
But I'm always reminded when you and I did our first scene together in this room in Season 1, I just decided to sit in your chair.
- Yeah.
- I remember the show runner and director would be like, "Oh!
Does that work?"
And they were like, "Oh yeah, it totally works!
"She's completely bossing the space."
- Felt really uncomfortable.
It was like my first scene in my office.
I was like, "Oh great, you just nicked my seat."
- Yeah.
- It was great.
- But actually since then I haven't sat there again.
- You have!
You've done a couple in this seat.
(laughs) (dramatic music) - This dealer you are going to see?
I'm assuming he's connected to the black market somehow?
Good, I'm right.
There's no expression you possess that I cannot read.
- It was a really emotional moment when we came in.
You know, we started filming in Serbia and we walked into this set, walking into Scotland Yard, and like seeing what they had created, the guys had created.
And like it's incredible.
Everything is identical.
The location in Ireland is no longer so they created it here and it's amazing.
I wish there had been somebody in there.
Boo!
- It feels like you're on stage 'cause you know, like it's a set dress so it feels like it has that kind of richness.
- Yeah, totally.
Once you step in, you're in this world, aren't you?
- I love it.
- And then, you know, you can kinda go anywhere with it.
You can travel.
You know, we did a massive sort of walk and talk today, and you can travel about here without sort of, "Oh, I stepped through this door "and we can't use it anymore."
- Yeah.
- It's great.
You get to really live in this world.
- Back down the corridor.
- Excellent.
- That's it from us.
That's tour of set of Season 2 of "Miss Scarlet and The Duke."
- And it's lunchtime so we're gonna go get our lunch.
But thank you so much for watching.
- Bye!
- See you guys!
