(uptempo music) - Like many of Eliza's relationships, with Clarence, they start at odds.
(laughs) They're very different people.
They struggle to understand each other.
- He does have an annoying habit of comparing her to Mr. Nash, to her face unfavorably.
(laughs) Well, Mr. Nash's way is a little more respectful.
- Clarence, need I remind you that he's not here anymore.
- He certainly, to begin with, does not approve of the way Ms. Scarlet is running the office.
So there is a little bit of conflict, shall we say, between him and Ms. Scarlet.
I should not be doing this donkey work.
Lest we forget, Miss Scarlet, I'm a fully qualified accountant.
- How could I forget, Clarence, when you remind me so often?
- What I really love is that 'cause she's really good at her job and he is sort of against his better judgment, slowly won over by her.
I think there's just a mutual respect developed between them that is really quite touching.
(glasses clinking) That is quite something, Miss Scarlet.
Well done.
- Thank you, Clarence.
I can't seem to find my bag or my notebook or my gloves.
- Your gloves are in the dining room near your notebook, by the kitchen sink.
She knows Eliza better than Eliza knows herself.
You could say that maybe Ivy was, is, the Watson to Miss Scarlet's Holmes.
I found something in these files you asked me to look through.
- The case is closed, Ivy.
- It's not about the gunman.
It's about someone else entirely.
- Someone's coming.
- This way.
(uptempo music) - I think, whether they'd like to admit it or not, they're a great team.
(door slams) What the hell have you done?
But they wind each other up.
I leave you a business that is thriving and come back to find it barely surviving.
He's as stubborn as she is, I think.
- There's really no need for you to be here.
- It is my name above the door and my reputation that's being damaged.
So I'm staying in London until the ship is back on course.
Eliza and Nash get into a lot of trouble.
That's their thing, that's their MO, and they're a very happy place to be.
And I think he's definitely learned from working with Eliza that there are different ways to getting different results.
And I think we've seen a softening of Nash and a development in the relationship between the two of them.
- We continue to explore the very acerbic relationship between him and Eliza.
That is still very much alive.
They're not best friends in season four by any means.
Hmm, private detective and now an amateur doctor.
How efficient you are, Ms. Scarlet.
- Do you wish to talk of efficiency, Detective Phelps, when it took over an hour for the first constable to arrive?
- We get to examine the relationships of our regular characters in greater depth, and there's a lot of change for everybody.
