Eliza's Crew
Season 1
short | 02:54 | CC
Cathy Belton, Ansu Kabia, and Andrew Gower discuss their characters' individual connections to Eliza and how they each support her.
(gentle music) - My name is Cathy Belton, and I play Ivy.
Kitty do not move.
Ivy is the Scarlet's housekeeper.
You should not be doing this.
- And you should not be listening at doors.
- She's challenged by Eliza.
She's not exactly approving of this new job she's taken on, in a man's world.
But deep down, she's very, very proud of her.
There's not huge, big dialogue scenes, but the writing is so precise and so condensed.
You get the relationship immediately.
It's so familiar.
The way she talks to Ivy, she talks to nobody else outside of the world.
- You remember far better than I. Even things from my own childhood.
- Well that's because you were so naughty.
And that's a really intimate relationship.
- You going to report me?
- If you don't help me.
- My name's Ansu Kabia, and I'm playing Moses in "Miss Scarlet & the Duke."
She's investigating a case.
- Mr.
Moses, isn't it?
- Who's asking?
She comes across me to get some information.
She then outsmarts me, gets the information she needs out of me.
And also, I don't want to give anything away, but you know does me over.
I think I like you.
In that whole sort of part of the story, we find a connection, build a friendship.
And we realize that we actually see that we like each other, and you know trust each other.
And maybe there's even some admiration of each other there at the same time.
- Let's just say, it's not that straightforward.
- Never is with you lady.
- I'm Kevin Doyle and I play Henry.
There we go.
Whoa!
(Henry laughing) - Don't papa.
(mumbles) - Henry is seen almost entirely in either flashback.
So we see the young Eliza in a couple of important moments in her early life.
And then later she sort of conjures him up in times of need.
He seems to arrive with her at moments when she has decisions to make.
- It's not fair!
- Spoken like a woman.
Do not be cross at it.
You're putting these words in my mouth.
- My name is Andrew Gower.
I play Rupert Parker.
I, I would not want to put you to any more trouble, Miss Scarlet.
Rupert and Eliza have a very interesting beginning.
- A lady should always act like a lady.
- They are both considered as outcasts.
A female detective is unheard of.
And obviously being a secret homosexual in Victorian society, Rupert has always considered himself as an outcast.
So they come together as outcasts.
They come together through Rupert's mother with a marriage proposal.
But I don't think he's ever met a woman like Eliza.
