- [Luke] Baby Sarah is born with a heart defect.
- Does Caroline know?
- [Dwight] I can't tell her.
- He carries this awful secret that she's not gonna survive very long.
- I'd have her stay with me awhile.
- So they very sadly lose their daughter, she dies.
- And they both deal with it in very different ways.
Dwight is quite open in his grief and Caroline much more closed.
- I don't think she would have been raised to open up or to experience emotion in that way.
She's an orphan, she's probably learned to shut that part of herself down.
Her reaction is to run away.
- I feel that I have failed.
Failed you, myself, her.
- I think she's just terrified.
I think in London, she can disappear into who she was before she met Dwight.
I think for both Luke and I to film this storyline in particular was tough, but it was nice to do it with someone who also has kids the same age as mine.
- And we know the heart swell of love and joy that they bring and make that emotional imaginative leap, I guess, to losing that.
(baby crying) - Those scenes, I guess, were the most challenging.
