(string music) - Aunt Demelza!
His mother has just died.
He's very lost.
He's sort of lacking purpose.
He looks to people like Ross.
- To Elizabeth!
- [All] Elizabeth!
- I think he'll always be there for him, you know, especially since Elizabeth is gone.
- Geoffrey Charles is closer to George than he would like to think.
- Get out.
- Both incredibly stubborn and proud of their name.
Both absolutely grieving the loss of the woman that was most important to them.
He meets Cecily and she really shows him that there's a world beyond his sort of own personal problems and makes him a little more open-minded.
- A beauty, of course.
How else would her son be Adonis?
- They do have that thing in common that they've both lost their mothers.
She really understands the pain that he's going through and the reasons why he's kind of maybe drinking a little bit too much and partying a little bit too much.
There's something different about him.
There's something charming but very innocent.
And they joke around a lot together and flirt a lot without realizing it at the beginning.
She's really in charge of that relationship.
- What should we look for in my future husband?
- Obscene wealth?
- A monstrous grand estate.
- An ancient family name?
- Not forgetting utter stupidity, but then he'll not notice that I have a brain where he does not.
- What a terrifying creature you are.
- We all know first love is a very powerful thing.
Ross was in his late teens when he fell in love with Elizabeth.
- You were her first love.
- And she mine, but life had other plans for us.
- An unexpected encounter.
Good evening.
- He's everything different from her father.
She falls in love then she finds out she's due to be married off to the love of her life's stepfather, and George is not very well, and then there's this kind of battle of wills between herself and her father and trying to get out of this arranged marriage.
- And I hope for your blessing on our engagement and eventual nuptials.
- Out of my house, you idiot.
- Their love story ties in with the bigger overarching story of this series, the political side, the dark side.
- You think it's an accident that you were expelled?
- He puts himself and Cecily - What could be?
- into very dangerous situations because he is just completely head over heals in love.
- My dearest Cecily, we leave tonight.
