- Oh, I do beg your pardon, how careless of me.
(groaning) (dramatic music) - Ross and Despard together, are like gasoline and a match.
You don't wanna put them together 'cause they can combust.
- You take on this case, it may be the rashest thing you ever do.
- He is sort of transported back to when he was younger and he put Ned on a pedestal.
- He's incredibly loyal.
He's impulsive.
I like that about him, he's always on the front foot.
Because of Ross's character, he would do everything and risk everything to try and get his friends released.
- What is your view?
- That your mind is already made up.
- But you agree.
- [Vincent] We've seen over the last four series how tough it is being married to Ross Poldark.
- Why didn't I marry an ordinary man?
- [Vincent] Just when things seem to be settling down.
- When do we leave?
- Along comes this hot head, Ned, who has potential to lead Ross into a lot of very dangerous situations.
- And you are certain it's wise to get embroiled with Ned again?
- Was it ever wise to get embroiled with Ned?
- He's unable to see injustice and let it pass so he's always involved in these reckless acts, but it's because of some fundamental sense of honesty or duty or decency.
- He's not scared by a lot.
- He is so strong.
He does it for the good of other people.
I think Demelza sees a younger Ross in Ned.
And I think she's worried for her own family and she is worried for Ross because he is a rule breaker.
And if he is swept along by this charismatic man that he has this history with, where will that leave them?
- Here he is.
The root of all evil.
- In series five, she's able to be honest with him and say you don't realize the cost to our family when you do that.
When you take in Ned and Kitty.
Have them live with us for nearly a year.
That's an enormous undertaking without really consulting your wife about it.
In many ways, he doesn't change, but his respect for Demelza grows and he realizes that they are a team and they work together and they are each others equals.
- It could easily have been Ross in prison, how many times has he avoided the noose?
He's just got out from shear luck and from having great people around him.
That's what I love about Ross too, you know, when something has to be done and he feels like he is the person to do it, he does it.
- Is he dead?
- He's breathing.
