- Hi!
- Oh, yes.
- Hi, How are you?
- Hi.
Hi, Hi.
(laughing) (upbeat music) - It's now 1973.
We're in London and Jane Tennison is joining the force.
- Nervous?
- Nothing like being thrown in the deep end.
- Our show explores how Jane Tennison became the woman that she is and the battles that she had to face.
- My character is very much the younger version, inexperienced version before she has this power and force behind her.
- You shouldn't apologize for asking questions, it's the only way you're gonna become a better copper.
- She is a woman in a man's world and they're not very happy about it.
- Tennison get your backside into comms and help Morgan out.
- The men kinda did all the like "proper" jobs and then the women were kind of like volunteers.
- Women were often left to do the dishes, the more menial tasks.
I think she really has to prove herself from that moment on.
- When we find the person that killed that girl, it will matter.
- The '70s is an amazing era, it's very sexy.
But then also a bit rainy and gritty.
- It's the smoking, it's the drinking during work hours.
- The costumes are incredible.
The guys in the office all had this hilarious facial hair for the whole summer.
And they couldn't shave it off and they had these sideburns and these mustaches.
- Which wasn't the most fun to go out in the real world with.
You did well Tennison, that was one of the worst ones.
- I think it's very brave of Stefanie Martini to step into these sturdy women police officer shoes that Helen Mirren filled so well.
- It makes me sick to my stomach that that bastard is out there somewhere breathing, eating, living.
Playing this role has definitely been terrifying and challenging in a really good way.
I'm just very excited about it and I'm excited for people to watch it.
