(bright music) - For the last 15 years, I have been in prison for a crime I didn't commit.
I intend on finding out why, and when I do, I'm gonna punish those people responsible.
- "The Count of Monte Cristo" has always been one of my favorite stories.
- Every character is so complex and so incredibly well crafted.
It's a very classic telling of this story.
- Everything is there.
You really get the full deepness of the book.
- It's about human nature, which is why the story remains so vibrant today.
(Edmond screams) - Edmond is a very complicated character.
We follow him through about 20 years.
He begins his journey as a lowly sailor who's very much in love with his betrothed.
- Edmond Dantès, you're under arrest.
- [Sam] He is wrongfully convicted.
- Hold her.
- Edmond, where are they taking you?.
- I don't know.
I don't know!
- [Sam] And through his years in prison, becomes very vengeful and angry.
- I've been dreaming of revenge.
- When planning revenge, dig your own grave first.
- Truth is all that counts in the end.
- And in the beginning?
- [Sam] He's so obsessed and driven by anger.
- Revenge is a very destructive force that eats people up from the inside.
- [Edmond] The only woman I ever loved was taken from me.
- I feel like I know you from a long time ago, but I must be wrong.
- The costumes, and the hair, and beautiful sets, all the attention of the details make you travel in time.
- [Bille] It's cinematically spectacular.
- There are so many plots, and characters, and stories that are being mixed together.
- So beautifully done.
- It's an amazing story.
- I was robbed of 15 years of my life.
I want justice.
