Meet the suspects in Season 2 of Unforgotten, as seen on MASTERPIECE Mystery! on PBS.
(dramatic music) - So last year our suspect characters were more iconic, weren't they?
They were the lord, the priest, the social worker.
This year, you've chosen a slightly less iconic elevated cast.
- I wanted them to be very ordinary characters, and also the jobs that they have chosen are significant.
They're all caring professionals, and they're looking after people.
- But this series, it's very much, you're presenting good people at a point in their lives where they're doing good.
- Absolutely.
- And lovable.
- Yeah, and they're ordinary.
Tessa, she's a police officer.
- A good one, relatively.
- Yeah, absolutely, an excellent one.
Her life is going to unravel as a result of the discovery of her husband's body.
- I think it's a terrible shock when his body is found.
And she has succeeded in reinventing herself and building this fantastic life for herself.
She's been a brilliant detective, she became a detective after the disappearance of her husband.
Is this David?
- Yes, we think so.
- Marion is a character who's very able to mask any panic retention.
She doesn't give anything away.
She's very used to just shutting off information about her past and her life.
- She's got your personal number?
- How's your morning?
- Marion has had mental health problems in the past that is probably gonna be the thing that opens her can of worms.
- I'm worried about you.
As the investigation proceeds, more and more questions are asked, and the relationship between Marion and Tony becomes more and more strained.
Do you wanna talk about last night?
- I'm really late, love.
See ya.
- So Colin and Simon, when we first meet them, they're in the process of being about to adopt a child.
We get a sense that he has anger issues that are going to come back and bite him, and are going to feed into the main investigation.
- There are some things that Simon knows about Colin's past, but there are some bigger things that he hasn't shared.
- To some degree Colin tries to keep everything going as much as he can.
It's a little bit like trying to hold on to sand, really, it's all slipping through his fingers, but he's trying as hard as he can to keep it all together.
Sara, she's a teacher, about to go for the job of a headmistress, and her life is going to unravel because of the difficulty she's had in the past.
- I did what I did for less than a year.
It becomes apparent I'm gonna have to be honest with the man that I love, really.
- I suppose it's a exploration in forgiveness, exploring the idea of love between two people and how much that love can withstand.
- Yeah, it's exploring how somebody does survive very dark situations and how they take those experiences and move forward in their life.
- It was a lifetime ago, I was a completely different person.
