- I need to say something.
I think our marriage might be over.
- So trial separation?
- Except not to trial.
- Connie!
We should still go on holiday.
We'll have this last summer together.
- It is actually a very familiar story, which I think a lot of people will be able to identify with.
- 'Us' is very much a love story.
It's about not why two characters should be together, but whether they should stay together.
It's a story of someone who desperately wants to hold onto the idea of us, of the family.
- [Douglas] What can I change about myself?
- Having David adapt his own book, you keep the flavor, you keep the humour.
It's totally true to the characters.
- Are you going to spend the whole holiday walking twelve steps ahead?
- We had someone who understood the story from the inside out.
- I'm trying to be more open.
- Well can you close it down?
- My character Albie, he's also going through his own problems.
He doesn't want to go on holiday with them.
He's been dragged to it.
- I want it to be the three of us.
- Dad, I've basically come back packing with my parents.
You have to give me a bit of time to myself.
This is my friend.
- Hi - I play Kat with a 'K'.
- Stop.
Leaf.
- I just love Kat's energy.
She's a lot of fun.
- Where to next next Mr.
P?
- Tulips or something.
- [Douglas] Well we are tourists.
So that's what we're going to do.
- All the characters are so well written.
For an actor this is just such a treat.
- It's quite normal to get lost here.
In fact, you're meant to.
- I'm not actually lost.
It's a very long story.
No!
No!
This is no good!
- The landscape of the story is so fantastic, because we go from England and we go around Europe.
It was wonderful to film.
- I think we place quite a lot of faith in travel.
The idea of the honeymoon.
We think that if we lift up a relationship, and put it somewhere very beautiful, or stimulating that somehow will enliven things.
That's certainly the hope that Douglas and Connie have as they go on to this journey.
- Lets make it a rule.
Live in the moment.
