(haunting instrumental chords) - "Plague on Amsterdam," the first episode of series two, is sort of a serial killer thriller episode.
Somebody is killing victims who seem to all have disparate connections to the city of Amsterdam itself.
And he or she is killing them in a manner that links in some way to the Dutch philosopher, Spinoza.
There's a connection to the flag of Amsterdam, but also there's the community.
The heart of the community in the episode is a sort of squatting artistic community.
- Ruud, the character which I'm playing, is a real estate investor.
And, there's a big new plan to make a big wheel.
The Amsterdam Eye, the largest observation wheel in Europe.
But there are people still living on that plot of land.
- We meet Django for the first time when there is a party going on, which is actually more like a kind of farewell party.
- I thought they lost the case.
- We did.
We're celebrating anyway.
We're proud of everything that we've achieved here.
- He lives on an area with Stutz nomads.
We call in Holland, squatters.
- It's about the city being corrupted by big companies trying to get squatters away, because Amsterdam has a rich history of squatters and people having alternative lifestyles.
- The Porter case is one of Susie DeWindts'.
She's the lawyer who won it for the city against the squatters.
- [Murray] So it's a sort of puzzle.
- We need to figure out who the next target is, and get to them first.
- It's a Pincer movement between trying to find the killer, but then ultimately trying to find out who the next victim is likely to be.
