Nell Hudson (Skerrett) and Tommy Knight (Brodie) take you on the set of Victoria; as seen on MASTERPIECE on PBS. #VictoriaPBS
- Oh, I think this will do quite well.
- Hi, I'm Nell Hudson.
I play Skerrett in Victoria.
- And I'm Tommy Knight.
I play Archibald Brodie.
- [Skerrett] She is small, but she ain't no midget.
- No.
Everything is in proportion.
- And we're here in Buckingham Palace.
- We are actually in the long gallery.
- And it's all in an aircraft hanger in Yorkshire.
- There are a few birds nested up there.
- (Laughing) This is the long gallery, and so at any one time in this room there will be 400 candles.
- And over the whole course of our shooting this we've used over 12,000 candles.
- We've spent 70 guineas on beeswax candles.
- It is a big place, Baroness.
You might even call it a palace.
- Michael Howells and his team recreated the floor from Buckingham Palace.
- And these chandeliers were shipped to us all the way from the Czech Republic.
Every single drape in the entire palace is handmade.
- And we used over 22,000 sheets of gold leaf to cover all the tables, chairs, candlesticks.
- And over here, is Victoria's throne.
And Tommy's going to sit on it.
(laughs) - Yes, I think before your first levee we should probably try to find a throne that fits.
- It is hard to be dignified when your feet are six inches from the floor.
- So we are currently on the queen's bed.
- Where the magic happens.
- Where the magic happens.
This is all based on a painting of Queen Victoria's bedroom.
- And down here, you see little Dash's bed, Queen Victoria's dog.
- Well if she does my hair half as well as she's done her own, I'll be quite satisfied.
- This is where I come to do Victoria's hair.
Do you want any particular style, ma'am?
- A couple of actual Victorian antiques.
Very beautiful.
- And they're actually, as well, the ones I do genuinely use in the show when I'm brushing her hair.
- We could get lost in here.
- This is what I call a royal residence.
- So we're now down in the servants' quarters.
This is where the cool people hang out.
- Yes, this is our home.
- [Nell] This is the dining hall.
- Prince Albert is a most correct young man.
- And over here, we have Mr.
Penge's office.
- And then here we have the courtyard where Francatelli likes to go out and smoke a pipe sometimes.
I occasionally do a bit of ironing out there.
- Hang the washing.
- Hang the washing, exactly, and then finally we have Mrs.
Jenny Jenkins' personal chambers.
It's a bit like mum's house, dad's house.
(speaking in a foreign language) - Thank you so much for coming on our fantastic tour of the beautiful Buckingham Palace.
- And hope you enjoy the show.
- Oh, yeah.
