- When the Queen goes to France, it's a whole new, quite intimidating world.
Victoria sort of finds herself, suddenly a bit of a fish out of water and her status as queen is sort of challenged a bit.
- (speaking French) - She decides that she is lacking somewhat and wants to fit in more and wants to look more like the French women.
- The French court is all very sophisticated.
All the women are very done up.
- Do I observe that all the ladies' faces, they are painted?
- Yes sir.
- And it is surprising, no?
- The French take a different view on these matters, sir.
- Victoria comes to Skerrett to ask if Skerrett could help procure some French makeup for her, which Skerrett does, through her wily ways.
- It was quite funny, shooting this scene, because Nell, who plays Skerrett, had to put it on.
- [Nell] Skerrett puts a lot of rouge on Victoria and neither of them know what they're doing and we ended up doing, like, proper clown makeup.
- I think "clown" is probably the only appropriate word.
- (laughing) It was pure, like, round, rosy, Russian doll cheeks.
It was very funny.
We had to do quite a few takes of that.
- Is it really you, Victoria?
For a moment there, I thought I was back in Paris.
