(gentle music) (waves lapping) (birds squawking) - Jack is like me in a lot of ways.
He's an Irish fella.
That's where the similarities end actually.
- Alice and Jack interact with the world completely differently.
- So who are you, Jack?
- Jack is a biomedical researcher.
He's brilliant.
He's funny.
- [Domhnall] He's had a happy upbringing.
He's open to the world.
- If Jack is a romantic hero, then Alice is an existential hero.
- She's coming from a childhood of really having lost everything.
When you come from a place like that, then she can take risks in all sorts of areas in life, like finance, and make huge amounts of money.
- Because accumulating money is a way of defending herself against the cruelties of the world.
- I think of it more like a war chest.
- Who are you fighting?
People like me?
- No.
Everyone else.
(gentle music) - It's been great working with Andrea.
Both Jack and Alice have difficult moments together, and I think it's easier to jump into those headfirst when you can trust the other person.
- And we've seen each other kind of grow up.
This is the third time that we've worked together.
- Jack?
(laughs) - To have that experience with somebody who I trust and have known for such a long time, like Domhnall, is really wonderful.
(gentle music) - [Alice] Do you live near here?
- [Jack] I work around the corner.
- [Alice] Are you suggesting we go to your office?
- Oh, no.
No, no, sorry.
I... No.
- [Alice] We'll go to my apartment.
- Dating apps had just begun, and the first person he matches with is Alice.
She's built a protective shield around herself.
I think Jack sees through that immediately to all of the amazing things that perhaps are a little bit more hidden.
- I think Alice and Jack each answer a call in the other.
- Your heart's beating really fast though.
- Do you feel that?
- They find in each other a something that they don't have just on their own.
(gentle music)
