Resistance Romance: David and Henriette
Season 2
short | 02:53 | CC
"I think what David learns from Henriette is that goodness wins." Gregg Sulkin and Eugénie Derouand discuss David and Henriette's whirlwind romance.
(suspenseful music) - David's up in the air, he crashes.
Lands in a field, has to hide out from those who are patrolling, and on the way, meets Henriette, who turns into David's love interest throughout the season.
Henriette is absolutely amazing.
I love their dynamic.
I think what David learns from Henriette is (door creaks) that goodness wins, and that is everything that Henriette is.
She's completely selfless for the greater good.
- [Henriette] Are you all right?
I'm sorry to keep you in there for so long.
- It's better than being dead.
And I think although he has a tough guy facade, I think Henriette pulls at his heartstrings and a love and friendship also blossom.
- I think they're both lonely and they are attractive to each other.
And yes, of course, they're going to fall in love.
- [Gregg] Henriette is also Jewish, so when Henriette takes David in, she's also risking her own life, because she's hiding someone who is in their eyes, the enemy, a Jewish person.
- [Director] All right, here we go.
- She's doing it for two reasons.
One, because she believes that hate should not win; and on top of that, she really does love David.
And so, as the love grows, the necessity to stay together deepens.
(soft music) Eugénie is such a special soul.
She's just so good, the camera loves her.
- Gregg is an amazing actor, and he makes me feel very comfortable.
- Well, did she tell you that I was extremely allergic to hay?
Oh, well, two months ago, they asked me if I was allergic to anything.
I said, "Yeah, one thing I do suffer from is hay fever, and quite bad."
I go to set, and we're shooting the entire episode in a hay barn.
That episode happened to be the most intimate episode of David and Henriette's love story.
Within like 10 minutes, I was sneezing.
Within 20 minutes, I realized that I needed an asthma pump.
And I live in America, I didn't bring my asthma pump with me, I couldn't breathe.
My nose was running, my eyes were like watering, and then I started wheezing.
And so it got to the point where, you asked me how those scenes were.
Anytime you see Henriette's coverage, just know that I wasn't breathing behind the camera.
Like, I took a deep breath before action, and then just delivered my lines.
(David exhales heavily) If I took a breath, you'd just hear wheezing.
And also it's tough, you know, I'm trying to be romantic, I'm trying to be intimate with my scene partner.
Should we go dancing?
The night is young.
She probably doesn't want to start hearing sniffles before she kisses me, so I tried to do my best.
But you know, allergies are allergies.
