News: MASTERPIECE Mystery! Returns as 2 Iconic Detective Series Wrap
Season 2 of Grantchester is over, but mystery lovers need not despair: MASTERPIECE Mystery! returns with the best in crime thrillers and a fresh supply of body bags for a spring and summer of mystery, featuring the brooding Swedish sleuth Wallander, the cerebral and solitary Endeavour Morse, and the detective duo that brings intuition and intellect—the heart and the head—Inspector Robbie Lewis and DS James Hathaway. And while the curtain is closing on Wallander and Inspector Lewis, Grantchester has been renewed for a third season, and Sherlock is slated to return to MASTERPIECE with three brand-new episodes!
Wallander, The Final Season Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marilyn, Henry V) returns as Inspector Kurt Wallander in the Swedish sleuth’s farewell episodes, bringing the beloved, Emmy®-nominated series to a poignant end. As age catches up with the peerless crime-solver, he’s getting dangerously careless. Could there be a connection to his father’s Alzheimer’s? In three gripping new films based on the Wallander novels by Henning Mankell, Branagh gives a heartbreaking performance of a gritty cop starting to lose his grip. Wallander, The Final Season, airs Sundays, May 8-22, 2016 at 9pm ET on PBS.
Endeavour, Season 3: Shaun Evans returns for a third season as the young Endeavour Morse, conducting his dogged, incorruptible pursuit of justice from the shadows of Oxford and the fringes of the police force. In four new films, Endeavour must deal with the aftermath of the tragic events that left him languishing in prison and his senior officer, DI Fred Thursday (Roger Allam), with a life-threatening injury. Endeavour, Season 3 airs Sundays, June 19-July 10, 9:00-10:30 p.m. ET on PBS.
Inspector Lewis, The Final Season: A grisly murder, a new boss, and an estranged father await Oxford's crime-fighting duo when Inspector Lewis (Kevin Whately) comes out of retirement and DS Hathaway (Laurence Fox) tries to forge a new relationship. Three new and final cases test the intuitive experience of Lewis and the cool intellect of Hathaway as they investigate murder and other crimes in the seemingly perfect academic haven of Oxford. Inspector Lewis, The Final Season airs Sundays, August 7-August 21, 9:00-10:30 p.m. ET on PBS.
